The tide recedes upon the bones: Ken Stringfellow covers Robyn Hitchcock's "Airscape" · Apr 10, 12:52 PM by Don

The child of air is borne upon the wind that blows across the sea

Robyn Hitchcock has said that he wrote the ethereal hymn, “Airscape,” off 1986’s Element of Light, while thinking about how the cliffs of Dover are slowly eroding. He imagined that ghosts of people who died years ago used to haunt land that now no longer exists. So now they float in the air above the absent earth. It is one of my favorite Hitchcock songs and was dubious that it could be covered. In 2001, Ken Stringfellow recorded a worthwhile rendition that passes the Cure’s Robert Smith’s simple test for cover versions: Would I listen to it again?
