I’m not normally a martial arts movie fan. I like the martial arts movies that purists probably consider to be too mainstream, movies like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Kill Bill 1 and 2. I saw the trailer above on Heidi MacDonald’s Beat blog and I can’t deny that Nicharee “Jeeja” Vismistananda wowed me. The trailer makes clear the fact that she does her own stunts with, regrettably, footage of her actually getting hurt. Voyeuristic and exploitative, to be sure, but that in no way diminishes her talent. It’s hard not to laugh when she wipes her nose with her thumb a la Bruce Lee.
And now for a little musical free association. Here’s Ash’s fun, poppy, punky ode to kung fu from the soundtrack to the sappy teen comedy, Angus.
