Sensing a Theme: Timedoor loves you forever (tonight!) · Dec 20, 08:56 PM by Don

An old friend of the Timedoor crew, Tony Wirth, dropped a slice o’ pop rock in my email box today. If you like The Smithereens or John Strohm (of Blake Babies and Velo-Deluxe fame), you should like this. Here is a snippet.

If you liked that, check out his band, The Blazing Saddles.
What’s with the alien up top? I always like to have a pic for each post, so I did a Google image search using the phrase, “love you forever.” The four pics you see are from that search. From there, I free associated to a few songs. First up, is the vigorously inessential David Bowie song, “Loving the Alien,” from Tonight, the leaden follow-up to Let’s Dance. “Thanks?” you may be thinking. In my defense, I’m giving you the single version, which is preferable to the 7:11 (!) album version.

Next, is the ultra-twee (I don’t use that word lightly) “Love You” by The Free Design. This makes Belle & Sebastian sound like Cannibal Corpse (or at least Def Leppard). You may have heard it over the end credits of the Will Ferrell movie, Stranger Than Fiction.

The Left Banke, best known for the song, “Walk Away Renee,” dabbled in jingle writing. Here’s a song about the second favorite beverage of the person above.

Read about the origin of Yo La Tengo’s Coke riff here.

Finally, brace for a blast of corrosive rock crunch courtesy of my second favorite band fronted by Kristin Hersh, 50 Foot Wave (or L’~, for you hardcore surfers).
