Tomorrow: Sonic Youth at Pitchfork in Chicago · Jul 12, 06:54 PM by Don

Tomorrow Sonic Youth play Daydream Nation in its entirety at Chicago’s Pitchfork fest, now in its third year. To celebrate, I thought I’d put the spotlight on Lee Ranaldo. Usually said spotlight is trained on Kim Gordon or Thurston Moore, but not today. You can read about Thurston’s second solo album somewheres else.
First up, a live version of “Eric’s Trip” from the Dirty Boots EP to go with the live version recently made available on the Daydream Nation reissue. Not nearly as ferocious as that version, the Dirty Boots version is exhilirating nonetheless.

Next, a live take on “Mote” from 2006. I hope you have 14 minutes and 16 seconds to spare for this epic aural mindfuck; it’s about twice as long as the version found on Goo.

Finally, a palate cleanser before you get on with your busy day. Here’s Lee and some friends quickly kicking out the jams on a skeletal cover of Wire’s “Fragile.”
