I have zero problem re-posting photos of foxy Quasi drummer Janet Weiss doing what she does best. The pics were snapped by yours truly at the Touch & Go 25th Anniversary concert back in September. Here were my thoughts on Quasi’s performance:

I’d never seen Quasi before and I was not disappointed, despite a set comprised largely of songs I’d never heard before. Sam Coomes’ passion is undeniable, but it is a passion that borders on the vitriolic. If Coomes is at times too dark, drummer Janet Weiss is the light. Her enthusiasm for playing music is almost palpable.

And here is what my fellow Timedoor writer, Chaka, had to say:

Then came the stars of my show, Quasi, a band perhaps at the top of the list of Active Bands I Want To See So Fucking Bad But Haven’t. Augmented by Jicks bassist Joanna Bolme, Quasi absolutely exploded out of the gate with the new record’s “Alice the Goon”, sounding much larger than I was expecting. Sam Coomes worked out some vocal issues early in the set and alternated between keys and guitar. Quasi concentrated on their latest release but did several other numbers from their last few albums. Janet has a lot more room to stretch out with Quasi than she did in Sleater-Kinney and didn’t waste it Sunday afternoon. Quasi generally came off better during their set when Sam played keys than when he played guitar. He seems to improvise more than the average band leader on stage and Joanna and Janet were with him the whole way. Again, a short set length leaves ‘em wanting more, the ‘but’-clause attached to any summer of 2006 great live show story. Quasi had me so deep that I didn’t realize it was pouring rain at one point until I pulled my cellphone out of my pocket to type another title in the setlist I was keeping and noticed it was getting soaked. Saw the Trib’s Greg Kot backstage during Quasi’s set – that was cool of Mr. Tweedy to give you the weekend off. Come back, Quasi.
